Youtube Monday: RIP

You know what Monday's mean, besides a peak of my horrible crippling depression. It's Youtube Monday! Before I get to that, there are a couple things I need to get out of the way.
Eli Manning on SNL - I'll compress my thoughts into this sentence: it's a good thing that his job is winning Super Bowls and not doing sketch comedy
The Avengers - this is officially the best comic book movie ever. I loved everything about it, but I've been told to not give away anything for at least another week. Just go see the damn movie, I know I will be seeing it multiple times.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program. Last Friday, a third of one of the greatest bands ever passed away. Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys succumbed to cancer and left us forever wondering watcha watcha watcha want. I have many fond memories of The Beastie Boys like blasting Brass Monkey through an ancient vinyl record player. I remember performing Sabotage loudly in a Chinese karaoke bar (I provided my own music).
In 2009, I was gearing up for the All Points West music festival. The Beastie Boys were set to headline when MCA was first diagnosed. They had to pull out and were replaced at the last minute by Jay-Z. A pretty good compromise if you ask me. Ever the performer, Jay-Z took the stage with an amazing cover of No Sleep Til Brooklyn.
So this weeks Youtube Monday is in special tribute to you, MCA. I present you my personal favorite song and video by the Beastie Boys. May you rest in peace.

Noooooooo!

Apparently, its April 1st. I had no idea since I spent the last 24 hours in bed, having confusing fever dreams and sweating profusely. Honestly, a normal Sunday. I wish I had stayed in bed because when I woke up and started reading the news, I was mortified by what I read. Two Time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning has been traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for their first round draft pick and a few other picks over the next couple years. Why god why?
The Colts had their Manning and they blew it. Word of this secret deal broke late last night but as I said earlier, I had a fever of 108 (might have been less) and thought the dog was a Roomba.
The worlds first animal android hybrid. Bow to it
I dug up a quote from Eli giving his reasons for the move. However, if you're like me there is no reason good enough.

After playing really intensely lately, freedom of options lifts souls.

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If this is what Eli really sounds like, then maybe the move is for the best. I just can't believe the Giants would take such a chance on a new quarterback when they have a champion already. It's bad enough that we already lost Mario Manningham and Brandon Jacobs. Osi Umenyiora is in danger of leaving if they don't pay him.
I'm starting to think that either my fever has caused me to hallucinate this trade or my illness, combined with Eli's exit, is a sign of the end of times. I can't believe the Mayans had it right. Jerks.

Mmm...Sandwiches

Ok, I cant stay silent on Tim Tebow the Jet anymore. If the rest of NY is anything like me, they're already sick of him. Although to be honest, I was sick of him when he was in Denver. The fact is, he's an average quarterback who had some lucky late game heroics. What he is, however, is a unique and fairly polarizing personality.
New York is a huge market, the hugest. Countless media outlets have their bases there. Tim Tebow is nothing if not a great story in the paper. Look at the other quarterbacks in NY. Mark Sanchez is another average player who is very pretty. Two time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning is too quiet for the NY press. He goes on the field, wins championships and goes home.
The thing that is annoying me the most about Tebow the Jet is how he is already the toast of the town. The Carnegie Deli has already named a sandwich after him. Presumably, it is a fish sandwich. I imagine it is only a loaf of bread with one small fish on it, but like all Carnegie Deli sandwiches, can feed dozens. The true irony is that the most Jewish deli in NY is honoring the most Christian player in America.
"Doin' great there Timmy"
To be fair to the Carnegie Deli, they tried to make an Eli Manning sandwich. It was a double decker sandwich filled with the most awesome of all meats; bacon, filet mignon, caviar, and bacon. It was then dipped in gold and served on the Lombardi Trophy by a team of physicist supermodels. It sold well, but customers had trouble chewing through the gold. Also it cost $42,000. Totally worth it.
